About
Judgment matters most when the familiar approach stops working.
DeadReckon is a leadership and organizational development practice founded by Brent Weber and Jeremiah Gardner. We help organizations do consequential work under uncertainty. Our work begins with Diagnostic Leadership, the discipline introduced in The Read, and develops it through teaching, practice, observation, and coaching.
Our name comes from dead reckoning: estimating your position from a known starting point and your movement since. It reflects the challenge our clients face: acting with incomplete information while continuing to check their understanding.
Brent Weber
Co-founder and CEO
Brent Weber builds what comes next. For more than two decades, he has worked at the intersection of technology, product, and innovation, helping turn uncertain opportunities into products, systems, and businesses that work in the real world. He has served as a founder, Chief Technology Officer, Chief Product Officer, and product leader, and has worked with teams at organizations including American Family Insurance, AIA, TruStage, Bayer, and John Deere.
His work starts with a simple premise: an idea is only the beginning. The real work is discovering what is true, translating what you learn into something tangible, and continuing to adapt until it survives contact with reality.
Brent is also a backcountry horseman. Moving through remote terrain on horseback demands the same instincts he brings to building: reading conditions, adapting to what is actually happening, and knowing when to push forward and when to change course. At DeadReckon, he brings the builder's side of exploration, helping leaders and teams turn what they are learning into experiments, systems, and capabilities they can actually use.
Jeremiah Gardner
Co-founder and Chief Practice Officer
Jeremiah Gardner is an executive, leadership practitioner, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of The Lean Brand. For more than two decades, he has advised leaders at companies including Nike, Disney, GE, Genentech, and ING. He has served as a Chief Innovation Officer, fractional Vice President, and Senior Principal, and has delivered more than 100 keynotes in over 20 countries.
His forthcoming book, The Read, introduces Diagnostic Leadership and examines the judgment that comes before a leader acts.
Jeremiah is also an accomplished cave diver, a sport with very little patience for a confident wrong read. At DeadReckon, he leads the practice: the methodology, client diagnosis, and delivery.
Capability people can carry into their own work
Our aim is for leaders and teams to become more capable of examining a situation together and choosing what it needs, especially when time is short, pressure is high, and the first explanation feels convincing.
